Abbes Bendaoud – 2024

Today, he shares with us his career journey, the challenges he faces day to day, and his vision for the future.

Interview with Abbes Bendaoud

How did you become a developer?

When I was young, I discovered a passion for video games and computing… Then, after earning an engineering degree in computer science in Tunisia (5 years of higher education), I decided to do my final internship in France at a web agency. That experience opened the door to a permanent position as an IT consultant, where I worked for 4 years on major accounts.

Wanting new experiences and a more close-knit, challenging environment, I joined Maarch’s development team in November 2023 to work on the Back-End side of the Maarch Digital Flow (MDF) product. As a Back-End developer, I handle the hidden functionality behind the interface and the connection to the server.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy about being a developer is the complexity of the problems to solve and the creativity needed to overcome them. I find it fascinating. I enjoy learning about new technologies, which helps me stay at the cutting edge.

For me, development is as much a professional passion as a personal one.

The collaborative side and teamwork, in a supportive environment, are also essential elements that strengthen my commitment to this profession and to Maarch. I believe that working in this kind of environment requires great rigor.

What challenges do you face in your job?

For me, being a developer is, above all, about continuous learning, creativity, and collaborating with a team spirit. As a Back-End developer, I’m constantly faced with numerous challenges, ranging from simple bug fixes to improving the Maarch Digital Flow product.

These everyday challenges push me to give my best day after day.

How do you help improve Maarch’s solutions?

I use agile and specific methods to solve the problems I encounter, in particular TDD (Test Driven Development). This approach involves rewriting a failing test in order to completely eliminate the bug. For me, this method is essential for optimizing the tools built by Maarch.

How do you see the future of development at Maarch?

I feel that the team is complete and works in harmony, which points to a positive, promising future for the company. I hope the new projects ahead will be just as rewarding and interesting as the ones we’ve already delivered.

Advice for future developers

Abbes shares valuable advice for young people who want to become developers:

  • Start with the basics: Take the time to learn the fundamentals step by step. Be patient and combine theory with practice to make solid progress.
  • Choose an accessible language: Opt for a programming language that is simple and easy to understand to make learning easier.
  • Learn by practicing: Adopt a « learning by doing » approach. Don’t let obstacles discourage you, and don’t be afraid to fail — every mistake is a chance to learn.
  • Join a community: Get involved in a developer community. Exchange ideas with others, stay informed without comparing yourself to others, and learn from your peers’ experiences.

This advice can really help young talent get started on this exciting journey!
